Dr. Julia Venturini

I am an astrophysicist and SNSF Ambizione Group Leader at the Department of Astronomy of the University of Geneva. The research focus of my group is planets orbiting binary stars , which we address both from an observational and theoretical standpoint.

I am originally from Uruguay. I moved to Switzerland in 2012 to do my PhD at the University of Bern. Later, I worked as a postdoc at the University of Zurich, and before joining the Geneva Observatory, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the International Space Science Institute in Bern.

During my career, I have seen repeatedly how women leave academia (particularly after acquiring a PhD), and how little the institutions do to retain us. This is why I joined 500 WS, to help to promote women in science, and to give women scientists more visibility within the society.
